4.6 Controlled entities Accounting policies Basis of consolidation Subsidiaries Subsidiaries are entities controlled by the Group. Where control of an entity is obtained during a period, its results are included in the consolidated income statement from the date on which control commences. Where control of an entity ceases during a period its results are included only for that part of the period during which control existed. The accounting policies of subsidiaries have been changed when necessary to align them with the policies adopted by the Group. Transaction eliminated on consolidation Intra-group balances and transactions, and any unrealised income and expense arising from intra-group transactions, are eliminated in preparing the consolidated financial statements. Unrealised gains arising from transactions with equity accounted investees are eliminated against the investment to the extent of the Group’s interest in the investee. Unrealised losses are eliminated in the same way as unrealised gains, but only to the extent that there is no evidence of impairment.
